How large is your operation: breeds, number of head, number of acres:
The operation has a total of 300 head: 80 Angus, 50 Hereford, and 170
head of commercial cattle that are a three way cross of Angus, Hereford,
and Gelbvieh.
Operation history, local, and topography: Started in 1950 and is
located in Potter Valley in Mendocino County. The valley floor has been
irrigated for summer. Some of the land surrounding the valley floor is
very steep.
Pedigrees:
Hereford: Gold Rush, Enoch 4Y, Pacemaker, Mile High, and 15G
Angus: Ambush, Tehama Durabull, Fame, O'Neil breeding, and Super X
Operations
accomplishments, management, and genetics: The herd has been carcass
tested for the last 5 years through Western Ranchers Beef /B3R Program.
The results have found that the cattle average 95% Choice, 85% yield grade
1 or 2, and receive a $50 premium on the calves. The operation has a strong
vaccination program and cull extensively; only cows that calf every year
are kept. Performance records are kept on all the cattle, including the
commercials

outlets: Calves are marketed through Western Ranchers Beef.
