Amaral Cattle Co.

Size of operation:   Small herd of Registered Angus cattle

Breeds raised: Angus cattle

Operation and local History:  Our operation is a small herd of registered Angus cattle that is family managed.  We raise registered Angus cattle. We artificially inseminate the cows to well known breed leading sires in the Angus industry. We breed for low birthweight/calving ease genetics with high growth numbers. The history of our operation stems from the genetics of Valley of the Moon livestock who raised registered Angus and Limousin cattle. They entered bulls in numerous sales and bull tests, including Cal Poly Bull Test. When Mr. and Mrs. Bergman sold their cattle in May of 2012, we used their genetics to start our herd. One of the biggest accomplishments for our herd was the sale of our first two Angus bulls in the Cal Poly Bull Test Sale back in 2013, our first and only other time entering into the test. Our cattle are marketed to cattlemen with commercial operations, as our bulls have outstanding genetics in the Angus breed and provide these ranchers with low BW bulls with great growth. We have also sold bulls privately, as well as at Cal Poly Bull Test and World of Bulls in Turlock. This is our second year entering a bull at the Cal Poly Bull Test. Our first year, we sent two bulls down, and both made the sale in the low BW division (2013). I graduated from Cal Poly in 2012 and my sister, Suzanne, graduated in 2016. During our time at Cal Poly, we both were involved in the Bull Test enterprise. I (Alina) was involved all 4 years while I was there on the health management team, which contributed to my journey to becoming a veterinarian.
